INTERNSHIPS BEFORE
GRADUATION:
You cannot
shake hands with a clenched fist- A very famous quote coined by Mrs. Indira
Gandhi is as much true today as it was 20 years back. In a student’s
perspective, it is an undeniable fact that they should be open armed to embrace
any opportunity that knocks their doors. Finding work can be a real challenge,
especially if one doesn't have any experience. Yet to get experience one must
first find a job. It's a nasty catch that can be difficult to get around
but an internship is a good way to do it.
There have
been vast variations in the engineering trends in the last decade, in job trends
and also in the mindsets of students, the factors being arbitrary. Students
have increased inclination towards doing internships at early stages of
undergraduate studies. Many new college graduates are uncertain what careers to
pursue. Despite their qualms, they often embark on job searches, only to discover
that the task is daunting. In this climate, an internship may be a good
alternative. Interns gain professional experience that provides them an edge in
the job market. They also offer one, a valuable learning experience, networking
connections, and an opportunity to earn recommendations or a chance to get a
job at the Host Company. An internship is a great first step to that dream job.
An internship is a testimony to the caliber of the candidate. It makes
the candidate’s profile much stronger and more appealing to an employer. It shows the commitment one has towards a field and also how willing one is, to invest both time and effort to get ahead of the learning curve.

The thought
of working for free may not be exciting but an internship really is. Sometimes,
students look out for paid internships as well, because for them paid
internships become aids for extra pocket money. Apart from that, one gets the opportunity
to meet people, attend cool events and feel happy working in an industry one
loves. Working in a company exposes one to different ways of thinking and
working. This breadth of experience is likely to stand one in good stead when
caught in the mire of a problem. Getting experience is a great way to build
confidence. A resolute and robust confidence is admittedly the gateway to one’s
dream job! Besides, one day when working, a look back on one’s internship would
be greeted with a fond and smug glow of self-congratulation for having taken
that necessary step!
